Town of Lakeville History

Our Small Town Story

  • The town was originally called Earl Town and often referred to as a village.
  • The Town of Lakeville was incorporated in 1902.
  • The area of Lakeville was first settled by Euro-Americans in 1836.
  • The railroad in 1845 spurred further growth.

  • The Lakeville post office has been in operation since 1850.
  • The Old Lakeville High School built in 1931(now the Palmer Complex) was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1991.

The Town of Lakeville is looking for someone to fill the Park Board President position. This person must be a current resident within Town Limits per Indiana Code.

Currently our Lakeville Park Plan needs updated, without a Park Board we are unable to move forward with needed improvements to Culp Park in the Town Center and the Wetlands Park.

Current Projects for Your Community

2024 Water Tower Project

Lakeville's current Water Tower built in 1965 is at the end of its lifespan and needs replacing.

In order to cushion the expense for residents the Town applied for the following:

$4,000,000 Grant from the State of Indiana

$1,000,000 ARPA funding from St. Joseph County

The Town will then secure a SRF Bond at 0% interest for the following amount:

$5,412,000 which will be paid over time. This is why your are seeing increases in water billing rates.

This Council has also created a fund for the next water tower after this project. This fund is funded by residents on their water bill and was created at the end of 2022.

The State of Indiana does not supply towns money to replace Water or Sewer Infrastructure or Streets. A Town finds grants and other funding and billing rates decided by the State if Indiana to maintain these 3 very important amenities.
